MoCA 2.0 for Pay-TV operators

USA - Entropic Communications (www.entropic.com), a specialist in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, announced production shipment for its MoCA(R) 2.0 (Multimedia over Coax) silicon and software solution.

Entropic is the first company to deliver MoCA2.0 production silicon and will demonstrate the power and performance of its solution at The Cable Show this week in Boston, May 21-23, 2012 (booth #1567).

Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution is the highest performing coax home networking solution available today; delivering the fastest connectivity backbone network for whole-home high definition (HD) video and streaming media services--all over existing home coax cables.

Ideal for Pay-TV service operators who need to distribute broadband bandwidth around the home or rely on delivering IP video around the house using gateway/client architectures, Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution provides maximum throughput, enhanced reliability, critical power management features, improved security, and backwards interoperability to prior MoCA standards.

Entropic's production version has been tested to the latest draft of the MoCA certification test plan and meets all the MoCA 2.0 performance requirements.

Features include:

- A complete solution with MAC, PHY, analog, RF transceiver and RF front-end functionality

- Net throughput (MAC) rates of 400 Mbps over 16 nodes and 500 Mbps for two-node Turbo mode

- Full backward interoperability with MoCA 1.1 and 1.0

- Low power modes with wake-on-MoCA to address energy conservation initiatives

- Improved reliability with packet error rates better than 1e-6 and a low latency of 3.5ms

- Uses the latest 40nm semiconductor wafer process

"The maturity of our MoCA 2.0 solution coupled with our first-to-market status, has allowed us to see significant market momentum and design-win traction for our MoCA 2.0 silicon solution -- especially as Pay-TV operators migrate to IP video delivery in the home," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing of Connectivity Products at Entropic Communications. "The production release of our MoCA 2.0 silicon and software enables Pay-TV operators to implement their next generation architectures to deliver new services to their subscribers."
