USA - USTelematics ( http://www.ustelematics.com ), deploying proprietary technology and market-disruptive products at the forefront of the connected-car revolution, announced it is outsourcing manufacture of its Voyager Mobile Internet Protocol TV rear-seat infotainment system to Avnet ( http://www.avnet.com ), one of world`s largest distributors and manufacturers of electronics and advanced consumer products, with approximately $14 billion in revenues.
USTelematics partnered with Avnet to meet the increasing growth of demand for its Voyager line of next-generation rear-seat infotainment products for passenger cars, newly introduced this year.
Since the introduction of Voyager at the January 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), demand apparent to USTelematics has far exceeded the Company`s ability to manufacture the product line in its Chicago-area facility.
"We have struggled to ship a very small number of units of this extraordinary product and resisted the idea of outsourcing in total to an Asian manufacturer, for a long list of reasons," said Howard Leventhal, Chief Executive Officer of USTelematics.
"Avnet, with its decades of expertise in embedded systems of exactly Voyager`s type, will bring unmatched knowledge, resources and capacity to bear on getting Voyager produced in the high volumes we anticipate will be necessary to meet consumer demand for our Voyager products."
Voyager provides live and downloaded wireless mobile internet protocol TV (IPTV) and audio programming for rear-seat passenger vehicle infotainment. Its broad suite of features and functions include a mobile Wi-Fi internet hotspot to enable online computer usage in the car and on the road, as well as DVD, movies, TV, Xbox Live, iTunes music and video, Sirius audio programming, PC-compatible computer games, and more.
