The light output from all light sources — halogen, LED, CMH and fluorescent — decreases over time. The amount of light provided from the source at a specific time in the future is referred to as lumen maintenance. It’s measured as a percentage of the original light output.
In general, LEDs have far superior lumen maintenance than any other light source, and Xicato’s modules are among the industry’s best.
The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) has developed a standard, LM-80, for testing LED modules for lumen maintenance. In 2010, the IESNA adopted an additional standard, TM21, which allows lumen maintenance to be statistically extrapolated into the future.
Using the IESNA’s standards, Xicato (www.xicato.com) has tested and extrapolated its modules which still produce over 70 percent of their original light output after 50,000 hours of use.
